Charlie Rich began his professional music career in the 1950s while serving in the Air Force. He left the military in 1955, but his career didn't take off until 1973 when "Behind Closed Doors" became his first hit and first number one song. Eight of his other songs would reach the top of the charts between 1973 and 1978. During this span in the mid 70s, Charlie Rich won numerous CMA, ACM, and AMA awards.
