A former casino hotel, which is now just a hotel, will soon be a hotel with apartments.

On Tuesday, the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority approved plans for 400 hotel rooms at Showboat to be turned into 264 apartments.

Bart Blatstein, who owns Showboat, told WPVI-TV via the Associated Press, "It's another step toward creating a complete community in the area."

Construction is set to begin in December and should be done around Memorial Day Weekend. When the work is done, Showboat will continue to operate nearly 800 hotel rooms.
