There are things that matter in life that matter, and there are things - in the long run - that really don't matter.

Today, I'll focus on things that matter.

PLEASE NOTE: This is just my opinion. Your opinion may vary.

Here are things that matter:

1. Spelling and Grammar Count.

I responded to someone's post a couple weeks ago that it was difficult to understand what they were trying to say because of all their grammar and punctuation errors. They responded by writing something like. "It's Facebook, does it matter?"

Um, yes. It does matter. With social media, many people are now only familiar with you via the words you type into your computer or phone. What you write and how you write it is a reflection of you. It's many people's first - and only - impression of you.

In today's world employers (no matter how desperate they are to hire someone) are checking social media accounts. You're lack of proper grammar and spelling could eliminate you for consideration of a job.

In today's "Spell Check" and Grammar Check" world, there's no reason for it.

(By the way, extra points for you if you find all the errors in this story.:))

2. Loyalty is Admirable.

Don't stab people in the back. Stand by your friends and family. This also applies to the company you work for and the people you work with.

It's not always easy - actually, often it's downright impossible - but, be the bigger person.

3. Family Matters

It's who you have coming in, and it's who you'll have going out. Family is with you through thick and thin. They're your peeps!

Note: In some cases "family" isn't determined by blood lines. Sometimes family means more, or less. You know the people important to you. Don't cross them.

4. Kindness and Compassion are Appreciated.

Actually they are required. I'm reminded of a Seinfeld quote from character George Costanza, "We're living in a society!" Yes, we are, and we all need to be aware that we're not the only people in the world.

Lend a hand, make a friend.

Reach out, help, care.

5. Hard Work is the Only Way.

An honest day's work for an honest day's pay, right? There are no shortcuts. OK, there are few shortcuts. Don't expect everything to be handed to you.

6. Friends Matter.

To have good friends, you need to be a good friend. Be there when people need you and they'll be there when you need them.

7. Don't Hold Grudges.

The only one it hurts is you. Get over it. Move on. Your time on earth is getting shorting every day.

8. The Same People You Meet Up Are The Same People You Meet On Your Way Down.

We are all humans. Don't mistreat people to get where you want to go. Back to that being kind and compassionate thing.

9. Protect Your Body.

Take care of it. Eat wisely, exercise. It's the only body you got.

10. Be The Person Who Can Look At Yourself In the Mirror.

It's amazing the number of people who can't do this. Have some ethics and morals. Let them be your guide.
