Quick: What  kind of songs are today's youth learning in school?

How about songs by country star Dierks Bentley!

First graders at Ocean Acres Elementary School have been learning the patriotic song, "Home" by Dierks Bentley, preparing to sing the song for a group of veterans on May 23rd.

According to Lowe,

Ocean Acres Elementary school in Manahawkin has been hosting a celebration for veterans the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend since 2002. This magical day all started thanks to one of our 1st grade teachers, Lori Kundrat. We extend an invitation out to any service member (current or past) of immediate family members of students in our building and also to the VFW and American Legions in the surrounding towns. We usually have about 150 veterans attend.

The morning starts with coffee and conversation, Then the men and women in attendance are led into our gym where the show is held. There they find 500 first and second graders standing applauding them as they take their seats. Classes in the building team up to perform a patriotic song or maybe poem. The show ends with all students singing a song called 'Thank you'. Then the veterans are brought to a HUGE lunch buffet. Local restaurants donate food for lunch and the teachers in our building bake tons of desserts.
