Alright, South Jersey. Somebody finally figured out the formula to ensure that every gift you buy will be happily and gleefully received.

It's the worst, isn't it? Not knowing whether or not the Christmas present you bought for Grandma, Grandpa, or Aunt and Uncle was what they wanted? Ugh, the anxiety! It's not a fun feeling. Maybe you're someone that doesn't give a hoot one way or the other if people like the gifts you distribute, but the fun of giving is wrapped up (excuse the pun) in the excitement demonstrated by the receiver once they actually discover what you've picked for them.

Cliché? Perhaps, but for so many people, giving gifts is the best part about the holiday season, so obviously, the intention is for the gifts to be received well.

In a new study conducted by the University of Nevada, it was discovered that holiday gifts are better received when they are poorly wrapped.

Same, Buddy. Same.

Researcher Jessica Rixon tells the NY Post, “Our research found when gifts are wrapped neatly, and given to a friend, it raises the expectations of the gift inside, resulting in our friends liking the gift less. However, with sloppy wrapping, our friends set their expectations lower and will actually like the gift more. However, with sloppy wrapping, our friends set their expectations lower and will actually like the gift more. With an acquaintance … if a gift is wrapped neatly, it cues positive feelings about the relationship with the recipient and this spills over to the gift inside.''

Does this mean we don't have to drop bands on wrapping paper and bows this year? Most would consider that a win.
