It was a tragic scene in Pemberton Township, Burlington County Monday night where two teenagers were shot, one fatally.

The gunfire erupted at a home on Snow Avenue in the Browns Mills section of Pemberton Twp. around 11:30 p.m., Patch.com reports. 17-year-old Malachi Treherne and a 17-year-old girl were hit by bullets.

Sadly, Treherne did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. He was reportedly lying in the home's entryway.

The teen girl suffered a gunshot wound to her chest. She is in stable condition at a hospital in Trenton where she was taken for treatment, according to Patch.com.

Authorities reportedly have reason to believe this may have been a targeted homicide. An investigation into the shooting continues as Pemberton Police search for a motive. So far, no arrests have been made. Burlington County Prosecutor's Office asks anyone with information to reach out to Burlington County Central Communications at 609-265-7113.
