October 27th is National Black Cat Day.

If you're a superstitious person, then Sunday is not your day. You can expect so many pictures on your social feeds featuring the animal dubbed "most unlucky feline". As you probably know, a black cat is often symbolized as an embodiment of evil. Of course, that idea is absolutely ridiculous, but the myth behind black cats is so strong here in America that it's actually become a sort of epidemic.

Black cats are the most unlikely of felines to get adopted. That's why (obviously) when you stop in any shelter, there's normally more than one available. Which is a shame. Did you know that in many countries including Japan and England, black cats are actually considered lucky?

If you're on the hunt for a kitten or cat of your own, don't put stock in this folklore that should have been put to rest long ago.

In short, black cats are awesome. If you're the owner of one of these precious beauties, make sure you give them lots of loving this weekend. You're just as lucky to have them as they are to have you.
