25 Avalon Lifeguards in Quarantine After One Tests Positive

COVID-19 continues to cause disruptions and uncertainty along the Jersey shore beaches during the 2020 Summer season. Now, at least two dozen Avalon lifeguards are quarantining after one guard tested positive for the virus.

According to a report from the Philadelphia Inquirer, close to 25 members of the Avalon Beach Patrol will have to self-isolate for two weeks after one of the lifeguards tested positive after attending a house party in Stone Harbor. The house was also shared by several guards.

Protocols and safety measures for lifeguards amid COVID-19 concerns this summer were in place including the wearing of face coverings and keeping proper distance on the lifeguard stands.

Ten additional lifeguards will be hired by the town and some of the quarantined guards are ready to come back to help keep swimmers safe on the beaches in Avalon.

Cases of COVID-19 are on the rise among lifeguards on the Jersey shore this summer due to social gatherings taking place after hours.
