Camden County Man Gets 9 Years for Conspiring to Distribute 900 Grams of Heroin
A Camden County man has been sentenced to 110 months, or about nine years, in prison for conspiring to distribute nearly 900 grams of heroin in Camden.
Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael Honig says 28-year-old Kaliel Johnson of Camden had previously pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute heroin from August through November, 2018. The sentenced was imposed Thursday in Camden federal court.
Honig's office says,
Using confidential informants, consensual recordings, over 40 controlled drug purchases, and several court-authorized wiretaps, the investigation showed a large-scale drug operation in the 400-500 block of Pine Street in Camden in 2017-2018. Street-level sellers were supervised by managers, who also resupplied them with pre-packaged heroin, cocaine, and crack-cocaine. Several firearms were recovered from different locations during searches by the FBI and other law enforcement officers when the defendants were arrested in November 2018. Johnson was arrested on Nov. 28, 2018.
In all, 19 people were arrested on drug trafficking charges based on this investigation -- 15 have pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy charges and are awaiting sentencing, three are awaiting trial.
The charges and allegations against those three defendants are merely accusations and they are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
