Cops say on the evening of July 10th, Gloucester City Police were called to the 300 Block of Essex Street for a report of a man who had been shot. At the scene, police located the victim who had been shot seven times. The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

According to Mayer's office, "A comprehensive investigation by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Gloucester City Police Department led to the identification of Joel K. Taylor as the sole shooter."

Taylor is currently being held in the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing next week.

Police did not release the identity of the shooting victim nor his condition.

As a reminder, all people charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
