ATLANTIC CITY — An off-duty police officer wrestled the gun from the man who shot and killed a clothing store manager Thursday afternoon.

Luis Maisonet, 55, had shot and killed Christopher Romero, 26, at the Zumiez store Romero managed at The Walk outlets, police said, before he ran off to another store.

Maisonet then turned the gun on himself, shooting his own torso, police said.

Christopher Cummings, a vacationing police sergeant from Bellmawr in Camden County, happened to be at the shopping plaza and jumped into action before local police arrived.

Bellmawr police said Cummings wrestled the gun from Maisonet, who was taken into custody and hospitalized.

Officials on Thursday said the shooting was a domestic-related incident, but did not elaborate on the relationship between Romero, who was from Absecon, and his accused killer.

Authorities have not announced charges against the Somers Point resident, who was listed in in critical condition.
