The victim in a fatal pedestrian-vehicle crash in Vineland Friday night has been identified.

According to the Vineland Police Department, 65-year-old Walberto Diaz-Marquez of Vineland was killed when he was struck by a car in the area of West Chestnut Avenue and Southwest Boulevard at about 9:30 Friday night.

A preliminary investigation showed that car being driven by 49-year-old Wanda I. Negron of Vineland was traveling east on West Chestnut Avenue approaching Southwest Boulevard when she struck Diaz-Marquez; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police point-out that the crash did not happen at an intersection nor near a crosswalk. Cops say, "at this time, it is unknown why the pedestrian was in the roadway."

No charges have been filed at this time.
