Earlier this week we told you that a website (not ours) was calling Wildwood the most dangerous city in New Jersey.

The people of Wildwood do not agree.

Here's a statement from the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement & Development Authority concerning the story originally written by Roadsnacks:

The Wildwoods hosts over 9 million visitors per year; the total number of permanent residents is only 5,070 in the City of Wildwood.

The NJ crime rankings do not take these millions of visitors into account; it only reviews the crimes committed vs. the number of permanent residents; so the ranking is fundamentally flawed from the start. If you take into account the total visitors versus the number of crimes committed the crime rate is extremely low in Wildwood.

The Wildwoods are the #1 family vacation destination along the New Jersey Shore and always provide a safe and inviting environment for families in town – including both vacationers and local resident. The resort town is a safe and wonderful place to vacation, live and work.

The Wildwood Police Department does an outstanding job in keeping our visitors and residents safe. During the tourism season the WPD hires a large number of additional officers, places a number of officers on the Wildwoods Boardwalk both on foot and patrolling in carts, the number of police patrols on the city streets are increased dramatically and bicycle patrol officers are deployed throughout the resort town all in an effort at increasing public safety.

A spokesperson with the Authority also points out the following:

"RoadSnacks disclaim themselves in their reports, that the article is an opinion based on facts and is meant as infotainment."
