6 1/2 Pounds of Curly Fries in 5 Minutes Wins It

There were a lot of Curly Fries consumed in minutes at the Morey's Piers Curly Fry Eating Contest!

I had the honor of serving as Master of Ceremonies for the event, held on Father's Day at Morey's Piers in Wildwood.

37 amateur first competed in a competition divided into two heats. The idea was to consume as many curly fries as possible in five minutes. The amateur champion was crowned after finishing off just over 2 1/2 pounds of fries - good for a $500 top prize.

That amount, though, was easily passed by all four contestants in the professional division. When the five minutes were up, Dave Brunelli of Philadelphia was named the pro champ - after consuming (inhaling?) over 6 1/2 pounds of curly fries! Before the completion, Brunelli estimated he's won over $50,000 in eating competitions in his career.

A good time was had by all - and, no one went home hungry.
