Due to the stay-at-home order put in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the country, people have had more time to devote to their pets this year.

That has led to a huge spike in dog adoptions this year. According to a new survey conducted by Rover.com, people have had a lot more time on their hands to be able to devote enough of it to properly train and take care of a dog. The survey showed that 1 in 3 people who responded said they adopted while in quarantine. Of those who participated, 60% have reported they're first-time dog owners.

Lots of newbies to the dog-mom and dad life this year. But, which breeds were the most adopted? Turns out, purebreds aren't the ones topping the list this year.

The most popular breed of 2020 is actually MIXED BREEDS!

More and more people are choosing to adopt mixed breed dogs as opposed to purebreds most likely because people prefer to adopt rather than pay a breeder. The top 5 breeds of 2020 are:

  1. Mixed Breeds
  2. Labrador Retriever
  3. Chihuahua
  4. Golden Retriever
  5. German Shepherd

If you're a new dog mom or dad, congratulations & good luck with your new furchild!
