The good news is that Atlantic City Police has the man who shot a man in Atlantic City Tuesday.

The bad news, at least for the Atlantic City man who was shot - is that he's been arrested for shooting himself.

Police say just after 8:30am Tuesday, officers responded to the 1600 block of Beach Avenue, where a  man had been shot. Police found Henry Alvarez, 18, of Atlantic City,  with a gunshot wound to his finger. He told officers he was shot while walking to a store.

Alvarez was transported to the hospital for treatment.

An investigation by the department's Violent Crimes Unit detectives quickly began an investigation. A visit to Alvarez's apartment, and detectives quickly identified that location as the crimes scene. There, they found a handgun, a spent shell casing, and blood. Investigators determined it was actually Alvarez who shot himself.

He was taken into custody as he was released from the hospital.

Alvarez has been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition and possession of a defaced firearm. He's now awaiting a court hearing in the Atlantic County Jail.
