Atlantic City Police Arrest A Different Kind of Shoobie
People who came down to the beaches of Atlantic and Cape May County from elsewhere were originally called "Shoobies" because they'd bring their lunch with them in shoe boxes.
Atlantic City Police found something other that lunch in a man's shoe box near the beach this past Friday.
Police say they arrested Mark Washington, 40, of Atlantic City after finding him sitting on a chair in the beach block of Tennessee Avenue. Washington had an active warrant for his arrest. Under Washington's chair at the time of his arrest was a shoe box - and in the shoe box, police found a handgun loaded with hollow-point ammunition.
Washington was taken into custody and taken to the Atlantic County Jail.
