A classic car was rear ended on a Galloway Township road Sunday evening. The car burst into flames, went off the roadway, striking a tree, several road signs, and ultimately crashed into the Bayview Fire House.

The accident happened on New York Road at Hollybrook Avenue.

Galloway Township Police say the crash happened just after 8pm when a Ford F-150, driven by Michael Murphy, slammed into the rear of a Chevy Belair, driven by John Hurden.

According to police, "Both vehicles were traveling north on New York Road. After the Chevy Belair was rear ended, it became fully engulfed from the impact with the gas tank. The F-150 continued north and ran off the road to the left striking a tree, multiple signs, and the Bayview Fire House. The impact with the Bayview Fire House caused extensive damage to the building and the F-150 then overturned."

Police say both Hurden and his passenger were taken to the hospital with injuries. At least report, they were both listed as "stable."

Police say Murphy was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and has been charged with driving while intoxicated as well as assault t\by auto.

The accident remains under investigation.

Last night, Bayview Volunteer Firefighters, along with the Absecon Fire Department, Galloway Township Police Department, and Galloway Township Ambulance Squad,  responded to an incident that was just outside of and involved our Route 9 firehouse. Members of all agencies worked quickly to bring this incident under control, and luckily no one was at our building when it was struck. We thank Absecon, Galloway PD, and Galloway EMS for their assistance.
