Cops in Atlantic City say a man from Mays Landing was arrested Tuesday afternoon after he was found with a gun.

At about 3PM, according to the Atlantic City Police Department, three of their detectives with their Special Investigations Section were patrolling the area of Stanley Holmes Village in reference to recent shootings in the area. According to police, the detectives conducted a motor vehicle stop, "after observing a male enter the vehicle who they believed was in possession of a handgun."

Police continue,

After activating their emergency lights at Kentucky and Baltic Avenues, the driver of the vehicle turned the wrong way on Kentucky Avenue and stopped in the middle of the block. The male who entered the vehicle was found in possession of a loaded handgun. Tariq Smith was taken into custody without incident. The other occupants of the vehicle were released with no charges.

18-year-old Tariq Smith of Mays Landing was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

Police remind everyone that charges are accusations and the accused are considered innocent until proven guilty.
