County Prosecutor Takes Over Control of Linwood Police Department

Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner says his office is taking over the day to day activities of the Linwood Police Department.

The announcement comes on the heels of an investigation that looked into "several complaints of alleged misconduct by Linwood Chief of Police John Hamilton." In a statement released today, Tyner says, "The Linwood Police Department will be under the statutory authority vested in the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office."

According to Tyner, “I am compelled to exercise the authority over the day to day activities of the Linwood Police Department until further notice."

Tyner's statement says the Linwood City Council has already placed Hamilton on administrative leave, "and has named Capt. Jason Weber the Acting Chief until such time as the personnel matters are resolved."
