EHT Heroin Dealer Sentenced For His Part in Death of Customer

For many families who've lost loved ones to heroin and other illegal drugs, this may be a small amount of justice: Someone who sold the fatal dose of drugs is being held responsible.

A 25 year old Egg Harbor Township man has been sentenced for his role in the drug induced death of another EHT man.

According to Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner, Jamal Campos, 25, was sentenced Friday to the following:

10 years in NJ state prison and must serve 85% with no parole for the charge of first degree Strict Liability Homicide Drug Induced Death and must serve concurrent to 20 years (8 years no parole) on the first degree Leader of a Narcotics Trafficking Network charge. The aggregate sentence is 20 years, 8.5 years without parole eligibility.

According to Tyner, Campos was arrested in August or 2017 at the Bayview Inn & Suites on Albany Avenue in Atlantic City during the execution of a search warrant:

Investigators were led to Campos following an investigation into the overdose death of Adam O’Gara on April 22, 2016 in Egg Harbor Township. That investigation led to charges of third-degree possession of heroin, third-degree distribution of heroin, and first-degree Strict Liability Homicide for the Drug Induced Death of Adam O’Gara

Early on the morning of August 15, 2017, Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office detectives along with law enforcement officers from multiple agencies searched 80 rooms at the Bayview Inn & Suites that was heavily damaged during Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Cash, narcotics and air soft guns were recovered during the execution of a search warrant.

This actually, was one of two sentencing cases that took place Friday where the accused was found guilty of inducing a drug-related death.

In another case, Jonathan Porter, 27, was sentenced "to 14 years in New Jersey state prison, concurrently for each count of first-degree Strict Liability Homicide, Drug-Induced Death, subject to the No Early Release Act (NERA), which mandates that the defendant must serve 85% of the sentence."

According to Tyner, "Porter pleaded guilty in November to two counts of first-degree Strict Liability Homicide for the Drug-Induced Deaths of: Tuan Tran, 31, causing his death on Sept. 24, 2017 in Galloway and David Hinckley, 52, causing his death on Oct. 19, 2017, in Somers Point."

After the sentencing of Porter, Tyner had this to say:

We cannot stress enough how important it is for families and friends to preserve the crime scene when their loved one dies as a result of an overdose. We are striving to remove the stigma of addiction and give families the closure they deserve when someone loses the battle,”
