Galloway Police Subdue Knife-Wielding Man at Smithville Wawa
A man armed with two large knives was taken down without any injuries after a three hour standoff at a Smithville Wawa Thursday.
Galloway Township Police say a 20-year-old man from Colorado was taken into custody at the conclusion of the incident.
According to a new release by Galloway Township Police, posted on the Galloway Township News Facebook site, police were first called out to the Smithville Wawa, on South Old New York Road, for the report of a disorderly person.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man armed with two large knives:
During the incident, the subject placed his vehicle into drive and allowed it to crash into the building. No one was in the vehicle at the time and no one was injured. The building sustained minor damage. Galloway Township officers, and negotiators, along with officers from multiple agencies, including the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, Atlantic County SWAT team, as well as officers from Egg Harbor Township Police and Hamilton Twp. Police were able to contain the incident to the parking lot. All civilians were immediately cleared from the area. After a three hour standoff, the subject was able to be taken into custody without injury to the suspect or officers.
The unidentified man faces several charges, and was taken to the AtlanticCare Medical Center for evaluation.
