As Mullica Township Police were responding to call about a man with a gun, they witnessed several people running from the alleged gunman.

The incident happened Thursday afternoon at about 3:30pm. Police say officers responded to the 1700 block Darmstadt Avenue. When they pulled up, police say "officers were met by multiple victims who were fleeing the residence on foot in an attempt to separate themselves from the gunman."

Officers search for and found the man with the gun - he was later identified as William J Cleveland of Pennsylvania. Cleveland was found at the rear of the property. Police say after several verbal warnings, he was taken into custody.

Police say Cleveland was clearly intoxicated at the time.

Police say they were able to recover the gun - a " gold plated 45 caliber handgun.

Cleveland is being held in the Atlantic County Jail. He faces charges that include "three counts of terroristic threats with a deadly weapon (3rd degree) and one count of possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose (2nd degree)."

The incident remains under investigation.
