Police in Atlantic City were called to the Applebee's restaurant for a report of a man with a gun.

When officers arrived on the scene, Wednesday evening, they located the suspect, who matched the description given by a 911 caller. Stefano Santiago, 23, of Newfield was detained and searched, but no gun was found.

After a short investigation, police say, they learned that Santiago had left the restaurant for a short time and had gone near some dumpsters. At that point police let K9 officer Alberto Gonzalez and his partner, Chalk, take over. Chalk was able to lead officers to the dumpsters, where they recovered a handgun.

Santiago was taken to the Atlantic County Jail, charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
