Reports of Active Shooter at Millville Target are FALSE
Millville Police are stressing that reports of an active shooter at the Target store in Millville are false.
Early Sunday afternoon a video was shared on social media of customers being told to exit the store. On the video, the following exchange appears to take place, apparently between a male customer and a female store employee:
"Get out of the store, please!"
"Active shooter, please everybody get out of the store."
While I have seen the video, we've chosen not to share the video because Millville Police says the video is wrong - there was no shooter. The reason for the evacuation was a possible gas leak.
According to a release from the Millville Police Department:
"There is a video circulating on social media of Target being evacuated and someone incorrectly stating that the store was being evacuated due to an active shooter. We would like to inform everyone that their was NO ACTIVE SHOOTER situation. It was an investigation into a possible gas leak and therefore the store needed to be evacuated for everyone’s safety."
As of this writing, no word on the severity of that possible gas leak.
In the video, dozens of customers could be seen leaving the store.
The Target store is located at 2100 N 2nd Street in Millville,
