Road Rage: Man Arrested Who Hit Truck with Gunfire on Route 55 in Vineland
New Jersey State Police once again have their man.
After an investigation, police were able to track down and find the man responsible for shooting into a truck on Route 55 in Vineland.
Police say they've arrested Cary Speaks, 29, of Bidsboro, Pennsylvania for shooting at another driver on Route 55 in Vineland. It happened on June 20 in the area of milepost 35.
It was on that date that police responded to the report of a shooting. Police discovered that a pickup truck was struck by gunfire as the vehicle was approaching Exit 35. Detectives were able to determine the gunfire came from a white SUV during a road rage incident. The victim was able to provide a description of the driver, who fled the area, driving southbound on Route 55.
State Police say "Through various investigative means, detectives identified the suspect’s vehicle as a white Acura MDX with a Pennsylvania license plate and determined that Cary, who matched the description of the suspect, was the registered owner. On July 15, troopers from Port Norris Station and members of the Troop “A” Criminal Investigation Office along with members of the Robeson Police Department, Berks County Sheriff’s Office, United States Marshals Service, and Pennsylvania State Police located the Acura in Reading, Pennsylvania and arrested Cary at his residence in Birdsboro, PA."
State Police say they later executed a warrant on the Acura, and found an empty magazine in the vehicle. They also found evidence of gunfire inside the vehicle. Finally, officers search Speaks' residence and found a .380 caliber handgun, which matched the description of the weapon used in the shooting.
Speaks has been charged with "criminal attempt homicide, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose." He's being held in the Berks County Jail, pending extradition to New Jersey.
