Cherry Hill High School East is in some hot water after their prom ticket went out to the student body. The principal of the school has issued an apology after students came forward expressing that they found the ticket to be offensive.

The prom ticket used the phrase "Party like it's 1776."  The prom theme is American Independence and is taking place at the Constitution Center. The theme and ticket were approved by the prom committee. Madison Vogel, student body Vice President said, "We thought it would be fun to do a play on the Prince song." Vogel also stated that the ticket was approved by a diverse prom committee.

According to Fox29,

Civil rights advocates told a local newspaper while the intent may not have been to upset minority students, but celebrate American independence, the slogan brings to mind a painful part of United States history for many community members.

The high school's prom committee have created a new prom ticket for the students.
