Harry Hurley has learned and confirmed that Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort employees have received amended federal WARN notices and the casino could close in December.

The amended letter, dated October 27th, says the Trump Taj Mahal was hoping to receive additional financial assistance from Atlantic City and/or the State of New Jersey and also from their secured lenders to keep the casino open. However, without that financial assistance the company expects Trump Taj Mahal to close on or just after December 1st and all operating units would be terminated between then and December 15th.

Two weeks ago, a federal bankruptcy judge voided a union contract between Local 54 and the casino, which released it from costly health insurance and pension obligations. Following that move, Trump Entertainment Resorts said the casino would remain open beyond a threatened November 13th closing date. Less than a week ago, billionaire investor Carl Icahn told the Associated Press the casino would "almost certainly close."

If Trump Taj Mahal closes, another 3,000 casino workers will find themselves without a job just before Christmas, joining the ranks of the former employees of Revel, Showboat, Trump Plaza, and The Atlantic Club.
