A distress call from a person on the beach describing a raft with two people, adrift far out into the Delaware Bay led to a multi-force rescue Saturday.

Lower Township Police say after the call came in, officers arrived on the scene and witnessed a raft about a quarter mile offshore, with two people near the raft - one in the water struggling to hang on.

Within minutes, a New Jersey State Marine Unit was on scene, rescuing the two people, later identified as Sophia Goncalves, 21, and  Croccifixiov Treson - Smith, 22. Police say neither was injured.
