3 boys home alone didn’t know Toms River house was on fire
TOMS RIVER — A woman is being credited with saving the lives of three boys who didn't know their house was on fire. She also rescued the family dog.
Suzanne G. Reynolds was working Friday afteroon at Pine Belt Cadillac when she noticed smoke coming from a house on North Gateway.
Police said the Matawan woman ran over to the house to check on the residents.
"Despite not having any protective gear or breathing apparatus, Mrs. Reynolds selflessly and heroically entered the home," police said Saturday. "She located three brothers on the first floor and alerted them that their house was on fire."
Police said the boys — ages 8, 10 and 12 — were waiting for their mother to get home. They had no idea there was a fire in the home's laundry room until they were alerted to it by the stranger.
Authorities did not know what caused the blaze but said there was no evidence so far to indicate that it is suspicious.
