Yes, road work is inevitable. Some of it is planned, some of it happens as the result of emergencies.

There are three major detours happening in Atlantic County that really stink!

Here's what we're talking about:

1. Mill Road, west of Fire Road in Egg Harbor Township is closed for eastbound traffic - for about two more YEARS! The road has been cut to one lane (westbound only) because of work being done at the Parkway overpass. Because of expansion to three lanes each way on the Parkway, the overpass/bridge must be expanded and rebuilt.

The good thing about this project is that crews are working here almost daily. It LOOKS like something is happening. It's going to take a long time, but at least we are witnessing the slow progress of the project..

2. New York Avenue, between Route 40 and West Jersey Avenue in Hamilton Township is currently closed to thru traffic "indefinitely." Word has it there is a problem with a small bridge on the road, and divers need to check the structure of the bridge.

3. Wellington Avenue in Ventnor is closed from Dorset Avenue to Victoria Avenue, thanks to a water main break. This can't be good:

UPDATE: This is an important health and traffic advisory from the Ventnor City Police...
