7 NJ Counties Already Cutting Down Water Usage, Could Atlantic Be Next?

Watch yourself out there in this heat, South Jersey. MAN, it has been scorcher after scorcher out there over the last few days.

While the temperatures throughout the Garden State have remained in the mid 90s, the heat index has reportedly made it feel like it's about 105 degrees outside. Let's just get this out of the way now - don't keep your pets outside for too long. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for your pets.

It's also too hot to be using a lot of water right now. At least, that's what several New Jersey counties declared when they restricted residents' water usage. Most of the state's northern counties are currently on some sort of water restriction and now Ocean County has followed suit.

Does that mean that the counties in South Jersey could be next?

Atlantic County falls directly under Ocean County, so if parts of Ocean County are now on an alternating watering schedule, Atlantic County may not be too far behind. But, what should the county expect if water restrictions do come to fruition here in South Jersey?

Most likely, the southern counties will be asked the same as the north. Atlantic, Cape May, and maybe even Cumberland County will be asked to implement an alternating watering schedule which would coincide with residential house numbers. For example, if your house number is even, then you would water your garden or your grass on even days of the month. If your house number is odd, then you'd water your lawn on the odd calendar dates.

Nothing official has been asked of the southern NJ counties yet, but it could definitely be coming if this heat keeps up. The hotter and dryer it becomes, the more demand will be put on the water supply. Just be prepared.
