
87-year-old man killed in pre-dawn crash in Egg Harbor Twp., NJ
An 87-year-old man was killed in a pre-dawn crash in Egg Harbor Township Monday morning.
The accident happened around 2:45 AM at Delaware and Fernwood Avenues.
According to the Egg Harbor Township Police Department, a Toyota RAV4 driven by 19-year-old Brandon Troy of EHT was headed westbound on Delaware Ave. approaching the intersection of Fernwood Ave.
A Toyota Camry, driven by 87-year-old Jose Catalan of EHT and occupied by 83-year-old Jovita Catalan, was on Fernwood Ave. southbound at the stop sign waiting to cross over Delaware Ave.
Authorities say the Camry entered the intersection and was struck on its driver's side, causing both vehicles to go off the roadway.

As a result of the crash, Mr. Catalan suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.
Mrs. Catalan was ultimately taken to Cooper Hospital in Camden due to "significant injuries."
Troy suffered chest pain but refused medical transport.
Police say traffic was detoured for four hours as the scene was cleared.

The investigation into the accident remains ongoing.
