Police in Absecon are looking for a man who allegedly stole a purse from a woman in the parking lot of a local grocery store.

Police say the incident happened Sunday afternoon, when the man approached the woman between two cars in the parking lot of the Shoprite on the White Horse Pike.

The male entered the Shoprite parking lot on foot from the area of North Mill Rd. and appeared to be circling around the parking lot. The male approached the victim from in between vehicles and took the victim’s pocketbook from her shopping cart. The male fled in the direction of the Calabria restaurant and north across New Jersey Ave. A K9 unit was requested and responded from the Pleasantville Police Department. The K9 tracked the accused into the neighborhood along Seaside Ave. where he was not located but the victim’s pocketbook which had items taken from it was found.

Police were able to determine the man had been in the nearby Wawa store before the purse-snatching incident, and they were able to obtain surveillance photos of him. The photos show some unique tattoos on both sides of his neck.
