A 68-year-old Atlantic City man is dead, allegedly stabbed to death by his own neighbor.

Atlantic City Prosecuting Attorney Damon Tyner says Atlantic City Police were called out Sunday afternoon to the 12th floor of the Atlantic City Housing Authority, Inlet Towers, on New Hampshire Avenue.

Tyner says when police arrived, they were directed to a man trying to leave the scene. They detained Robert Fountaine, 32.

Tyner continues that police found a victim, Thomas A. Hill, 68, bleeding in a stairwell. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation found that Fountaine physically assaulted and stabbed Hill in the common area/hallway outside of their apartments.

Fountaine has been charged with the following offenses:

  • First degree Murder
  • Third degree Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose

Fountaine is lodged at the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending further court proceedings. The investigation is a cooperative effort between the ACPO Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department.
