Officials in Cape May Court House confirm that 6-year-old K-9 "Flash" died Saturday, likely of heat related issues.

Flash, a mixed breed Belgian Malinois/Collie, and another police dog were outside for around 30 minutes when Officer Russ Norcross found the dog whining.

Flash was taken directly to nearby Ocean View Veterinary Hospital, but he could not be saved.

During their five years together, Officer Norcross and K-9 Flash conducted over 175 searches for explosives that included threats to schools, shopping centers and medical buildings.

Additionally, they both participated in community events throughout Cape May County such as DARE graduations, Boy Scout Demonstrations, National Night Out, 4-H Fairs and Lunch with Lynch for the Wildwood Schools.
