A Brigantine man was seriously injured when he lost control of his car on Route 30 and struck a pole, breaking the pole into three pieces. His car broke into two pieces, with the back half bursting into flames.

Absecon Police say the car driven  John Rios, 24, struck the pole at 8:40 last evening, near the Bayview Motel.. The flames were extinguished by the Absecon Fire Department.

Rios was thrown from the vehicle, treated for serious visible injuries, and taken to the AtlantiCare City Campus. No word on his condition.

An investigation is underway and charges are pending.
