Good Samaritan From Mays Landing Dies, Suspect Charged
A Mays Landing man who chose to get involved and try to break up a domestic dispute on Route 40 has died from injuries he sustained from being attacked.
Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner says John Charlton, 54, died Sunday in the hospital, where he had been treated since the incident.
Calvin Wiggins, 24, has been charged with aggravated manslaughter.
According to Tyner:
Hamilton Township Police responded to the scene on November 2, 2017, where Calvin Wiggins was involved in a domestic dispute on the Route 40 roadway near the intersection of Cantillion Blvd. It is believed Charlton exited his vehicle and yelled at Wiggins to stop assaulting a woman, when he was punched by Wiggins. Charlton subsequently fell to the ground and struck his head and he never regained consciousness.
