Diabetes is a leading public health concern in this country with almost two million people diagnosed every year.

Foot wounds and ulcers are common in patients with diabetes.  Since our feet are exposed to bacteria, they have a greater chance of becoming infected.  Infection often leads to further health complications, and puts the patient at increased risk of developing serious complications, including amputation.

Specialized footwear and orthotics can help relieve the pressure on the wound to allow the patient to heal and prevent further foot ulcerations. Orthotics can also prevent foot wounds from developing in the first place.

Wound Care Specialist Larry Lodico of the Wound Care Clinic of South Jersey explains how specialized footwear and customized orthotics help his patients to manage or prevent diabetic foot wounds.
