In Only 25 Minutes, AC Cops Bust Eight on Drugs Charges
Just after 3pm Wednesday, Atlantic City Police hit the streets to clamp down on drug activity. By 4pm, eight men from Atlantic City, Mays Landing, Seaville, and Berlin had been arrested on drug charges.
Atlantic City Police have provide a chronicle of the whirlwind hour of activity:
At 3:20 pm, Officers Eric Evans and Christopher Dodson observed two men, Jordan Wilson and David Mitchell, conduct a drug transaction at Tennessee and Central Avenues before splitting up. The officers stopped Mitchell who had one bag of heroin in his hand. He was arrested without incident.
A description of Wilson was provided to responding officers. Officers Valmir Loga and Jeffrey Hannon attempted to stop Wilson in the 1400 block of Atlantic Avenue, but he immediately fled as they approached. The officers chased Wilson, he ran into and out the back of the Save-A-Lot food store. As officers closed in, Wilson surrendered and was arrested. During his flight, Wilson discarded 39 bags of heroin that was recovered.
At 3:34 pm, Detectives Jefferson Rivera and Will Herrerias were conducting surveillance in the area of South Carolina and Atlantic Avenues. They observed Stanton Callender conduct three separate drug transactions with three men, Lenny Stewart, Jorge Villafane, and Michael Regan. The three men that conducted the transactions with Callender were arrested and found in possession of heroin. Callender was also arrested and found in possession of 120 bags of heroin.
At 3:55 pm, Detectives Darrin Lorady, Alberto Valles, and Nick Berardis observed a drug transaction take place between Jaquise White and Richard Tomasko in the 1700 block of Atlantic Avenue. As the detectives approached, Tomasko was found in possession of marijuana and taken into custody. White pulled away from Detective Lorady and fled on Indiana Avenue. White, disregarding the red traffic light, attempted to run across Pacific Avenue without looking, and was struck by a vehicle as he stepped off the curb. He was arrested and transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, for injuries sustained from being struck. White was found in possession of nine bags of heroin and 18 grams of marijuana.
ARRESTED: Jordan Wilson, a 19-year old man from Atlantic City.
CHARGES: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession with intent to distribute CDS, possession with intent to distribute CDS within 500 feet of a public zone, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest.
ARRESTED: David Mitchell, a 42-year old man from Seaville, NJ.
CHARGES: Possession of CDS.
Both men were released on a summons with a future court date.
ARRESTED: Stanton Callender, a 67-year old man from Atlantic City.
CHARGES: Possession of CDS, possession with intent to distribute CDS, possession with intent to distribute CDS within 500 feet of a public zone, and an active warrant.
ARRESTED: Jorge Villafane, a 57-year old man from Atlantic City.
CHARGES: Possession of CDS and an active warrant.
Callender and Villafane were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
ARRESTED: Michael Regan, a 52- year old man from Berlin, NJ.
CHARGES: Possession of CDS and an active warrant.
ARRESTED: Lenny Stewart, a 51- year old man from Atlantic City.
CHARGES: Possession of CDS.
Regan and Stewart were released on a summons with a future court date.
ARRESTED: Jaquise White, a 22-year old man from Atlantic City.
CHARGES: Two counts each of possession of CDS, possession with intent to distribute CDS, and possession with intent to distribute CDS within 500 feet of a public zone, a single count of obstruction of justice and resisting arrest, and active warrants.
White was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
ARRESTED: Richard Tomasko, a 31-year old man from Mays Landing, NJ.
CHARGES: Possession of CDS.
Tomasko was released on a summons with a future court date.
