Linwood Chase Ends in Crash, Cops Remove Defiant Man From Car
A traffic stop, a police chase, a car crashing into a house, a defiant driver - all part of some tense moments for Linwood Police Saturday.
Linwood Police say they received a 911 call about an erratic driver in the area of Shore Road and Country Club Drive. After getting a description, police determined that the car in question was wanted following an incident in Atlantic City earlier in the day. The call had been the subject of a countywide police broadcast.
Linwood Police officers Michael Fountas and Brian Settle responded to the area and located the vehicle, and attempted a high risk traffic stop nearly Country Club Drive.
Police say driver refused to comply with officers and quickly drove away.
A short time later, the driver lost control his vehicle and went onto a lawn on Delmar Avenue, ultimately striking the house.
Police say at that point, police approached the vehicle and ordered the driver to get out, but he refused, locking the doors, and remaining inside.
Police say the officers then broke the driver's side window and forced entry into the car. They then took the driver into custody without further incident.
Police have identified the driver as Kevin Wade of Philadelphia.
He's been taken into custody and charged with Driving While Suspended, Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Failure to Report an Accident.
Linwood Police say their investigation into the incident is continuing.
UPDATE: The car was actually carjacked in Atlantic City earlier Saturday. Details on that event can be found here.
Linwood Police thanked the cooperation of the police departments from Atlantic City, Northfield and Somers Point.
