Man Drowns in River at Weymouth Furnace in Hamilton Township NJ
A tragic accident on a beautiful day on the Great Egg Harbor River Sunday afternoon.
A man drowned in the river. Reportedly, it took rescue crews about an hour to find the man's body.
Authorities have not yet released any details, but 6ABCNews is reporting that the victim was a 27-year old man. They report a second man was pulled from the water earlier. He's reported to be in stable condition at an area hospital.
The accident scene was at Weymouth Furnace, part of the Atlantic County Park System, located on Route 559, just north of Route 322.
Weymouth Furnace is so named because of an iron forge that was located on the property in the 1800s. The area became part of the Atlantic County Park System in 1966, according to atlantic-county.org.
The area is popular with canoeists, haymakers, and people tubing on the river. It's also a popular spot for families for picnics and swimming, even though "No Swimming" signs are posted.
