Mays Landing, NJ, man pleads guilty to leaving fatal accident scene
A Mays Landing is facing up to a decade in prison for leaving the scene of a fatal accident last year.
On Monday in Atlantic County Superior Court, 38-year-old Fabian Lucas pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death.
At around 11:30 on the night of March 1st, 2023, officers with the Atlantic City Police Department were called to the eastbound side of Route 30 near mile marker 55 for a hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian.
At the scene, paramedics worked to revive 49-year-old Jodi Milhan of Pleasantville who later died at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.
According to prosecutors,
Debris from a 2012 Nissan Altima was scattered throughout the roadway, which members of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office’s Crash Investigations Unit were able to trace back to Fabian Lucas using the Automated License Plate Reader system. Law enforcement learned that in the days following the fatal crash, the defendant planned to turn the vehicle over to American Recycling on Route 50 in Mays Landing to dispose of the vehicle after the vehicle’s VIN numbers were defaced and various parts of the damage were removed.
Lucas was eventually arrested and taken into custody in April 2023.
He now is facing five to ten years in prison; sentencing is scheduled for next month.
