A 40-year-old Middle Township man was killed early Thursday morning after he was struck by a car on Route 55 in Elk Township. The accident occurred after the man had gotten out of his car following an earlier accident.

NJ.com is reporting that Edward Phillips was killed in the northbound lanes of the roadway:

Phillips pulled over, got out of his vehicle and entered the highway’s left lane, where he was struck by a passing car, police said. The driver of the other car remained at the scene and no charges have been filed.
