Some suspicious activity is afoot in Cumberland County recently regarding online secondhand purchasing.

The Millville Police Department issued a statement via their Facebook page warning residents to make absolutely sure what they're purchasing on apps like Letgo and Facebook Marketplace are legitimate. Apparently, they've been getting reports of people getting scammed out of money because the post was fake.

Check out their post below:

The advice is pretty solid. Never EVER send money via an online money transfer BEFORE seeing the item you intend to purchase in-person. If it feels fishy, it probably is. Trust your gut. Also, make sure to keep in mind that if something looks dirt cheap that you would expect to cough up a bit more money for even if it's used, steer clear. That's a HUGE red flag.

At least the police are trying to inform people before the scamming gets too out of hand.
