My, oh my, how the times have changed.

We certainly do live in a different world these day, don't we? If you think back to even only a decade ago, phones would never EVER be allowed in a classroom setting. Fast forward to the late 2010s and early 2020s and cell phones in the classroom are a common find nowadays.

While phones in the classroom is a relatively new concept to wrap our brains around, it's not too shocking to hear why, in today's world, many parents believe that their children should always be allowed to carry cell phones on their person. With school shootings now a common occurrence in America, it makes sense why parents would want their children to be able to contact them at any time.

For students at Middle Township Middle School in Middle Township, NJ, that won't be the case for much longer. A statement was released by the middle school on Wednesday, December 1st, 2021 stating that cell phone use will no longer be allowed during the school day. According to a post shared to the Middle Township Middle School's Facebook page, students will still be allowed to bring their cell phones to school, however they must have them safely stored away in their lockers before homeroom. They will be permitted to resume phone usage at the end of the school day. Any student caught with a phone during school hours and in between classes will have their phone taken and only a parent or guardian may retrieve it from the school.

Of course, parents sounded off in the comment section of the post. Many agree with the school restricting cell phones while others believe that, given the current climate in this country with gun violence and school shootings, that all students shouldn't be punished with not being able to carry their phones thanks to a few bad apples.
