Thanks to a $130,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation, Somers Point will expand its existing bike path.

The expansion will reportedly include construction of bike lanes on Somers Point-Mays Landing Road, which will connect the existing bike path and the Route 52 path to the new Garden State Parkway path and bike lanes on Route 9.

According to a statement, NJDOT plans to start construction on the project next spring, with hopes of completing it by next summer.

Somers Point Economic Development Advisory Commission chairman Greg Sykora conveyed his enthusiasm about the expansion saying, “We are excited to now have the funding to connect the bikeways to the parkway, Ocean City and our neighboring communities.", calling Somers Point 'the biking hub for the shore'.
