Thinking about everything that's happened over the last year makes your soul heavy. If not for you, well, it certainly does to me.

This may sound insensitive, but I don't think it's unfair to say that there were more victims of the pandemic than just those that have suffered from disease or illness. Whether you lost your job, had financial hardship, had to learn how to work from home and play teacher to your kids, whatever the case may be, everyone's struggled over the last 14 months in one way or another.

In my opinion, nobody's had more taken from them as a result of the pandemic than the kids have. For one, they lost some of the golden years of their childhood not able to experience the milestones like every other generation has. Combine that with having to learn a whole new way to tackle school all with not being able to have a social outlet since they couldn't really see their friends and you've got a super unfortunate circumstance, especially for high schoolers.

Senior year is supposed to be the time of your life. My heart breaks for the class of 2020 and everything they weren't able to do due to COVID-19. One South Jersey town couldn't bear to see that happen again, so they took matters into their own hands. NJ.com reports that the seniors from Toms River High School South actually had a prom this year out on the main strip of town. Apparently, volunteers and various businesses banned together and put on a prom for the class of 2021 right in downtown Toms River.

The kids had their very own night complete with dancing, twinkling lights, dinner from a food truck, and even a Ferris wheel. NJ.com reports the ticket prices were able to be decreased since almost everything acquired for the evening had been donated.

You can check out some amazing pictures from the prom HERE.

You can't help but feel happy for the kids knowing that at least one tradition was able to be experienced this year.
