Another beautiful weekend in South Jersey. I took time to visit Marine Mammal Stranding Center to learn all about what they do and to adopt a seal!

I remember visiting Marine Mammal Stranding Center when I was a kid with Girl Scouts. I adopted a seal back then and thought it was the coolest thing ever.

I went back over the weekend to check out the facility and learn more about what they do there. Marine Mammal Stranding Center (MMSC) rescues and rehabilitates marine life that become beached or injured. They are on the scene anytime you see an article about a beached whale or an injured seal. They also offer programs at different locations all over the Jersey Shore to teach the public how it is they do what they do with mock seal strandings.

This organization has become vital to the marine ecosystem in our area.

What I love most about MMSC is that it is not a sanctuary, meaning they don't house seals and other marine life indefinitely. They rehabilitate them and release them back into the wild.
