Cops in Wildwood Crest say they have arrested a woman for allegedly stealing items from as many as nine different people.

And the arrest can be credited to an alert resident who contacted police when they saw something that was suspicious.

Authorities say last Sunday, officers responded to the area of 7100 Seaview Avenue for the report of a woman who was hiding items around a building. At the scene, cops located 30-year-old Megan E. McDevitt of North Wildwood. While they were speaking to her, a resident told officers she had some of their belongings.

An investigation revealed that, "...Ms. McDevitt had stolen several items from properties and vehicles in the area."

While being arrested, police say a brief struggle ensued and McDevitt tried to throw away, "numerous hypodermic syringes which she had in her pocket."

In total, police determined there were nine different robbery victims and all of the items that were stolen were recovered.

McDevitt has been charged with burglary, theft, possession of hypodermic syringes, resisting arrest, obstruction, and possession of drug paraphernalia and lodged at the Cape May County Correctional Center.

The Wildwood Crest Police Department would like to remind everyone to always secure personal property and lock their car doors.

As always, all persons charged with crimes are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
